Choosing a School

So as many of you know, London starts kindergarten next year and it is really freaking me out. Not only do I have a 5 year old, but now I have to figure out what school would be best for her and I have to find out all these application deadlines and it is pretty scary. There is no way she is going to the school in the neighborhood. They bus in problem kids and I don't think that there is a lot of parent involvment at that school. I have looked into some schools farther east and we put in a window application to Rose Crest and Eastwood which are both in Granite School District. Yesterday I went to an open house at Canyon Rim Academy which is a charter school a few miles east of here. It was so cute! It reminded me of my own elementary school. They are an art based school and there were copies of famous painting down each hall and tons of art projects and supplies. They had all the kids art projects hanging up in the hallways. All of the staff were super nice and the class rooms and school were really clean. I was way impressed. The kids have to wear uniforms, which I think is a good thing, but I will miss buying cute school clothes. They use the Core Knowledge Sequence for their curriculum which looks really good. Anyway, they have a lottery to decide who gets in and I will find out in the next 2 to 4 weeks so wish me luck!

I can't believe she is already starting school! Too bad we don't live closer together so she could be in my first grade class the next year! However, I am not teaching next year so I can be a stay at home mom, so really she would never be in my class anyway but it was a fun thought:)

I'm glad you're taking your time and researching this. I believe that elementary school is SO important to the rest of a kid's educational future. I went to an AWESOME school. Stephen's sucked. He struggled WAY more than I did to get where his is.
